This picture has a personal meaning to me right at this moment. As i sit in my room waiting for Friday at 4 pm to come as soon as possible so i can be done with finals, I think of Graduation. This picture captures the excitement that ends the college career. The freedom one feels after having tried so hard for 4 years to be ready for the real world. I love the contrast of the open sky that shows no limits, the detail in the yellow and texture of the caps. This captures a moment in time just as the caps are trying to fly as high as possible. The movement and angle this picture was shoot at make it seem like the moment will never end.

I really like this picture. Tigers are thought to be such vicious carnivours , however this baby tiger is the furthest from that. He seems so cute and lovable. The mix of colors in his fur is gorgeous and this picture catches all the highlights starting from the sparkle in his eyes to the way the light hits his little body. This picture catches action and movement as it seems that the baby tiger is trying to run somewhere even though we do not know where. The contrast between the green of the grass and the orange, black and white in his body give the picture such an amazing feel. The background of this picture is blurred and i believe what appears in the back is people. I think this was a good idea in order to make the tiger the main focus.

Street Photography - The Underworld

This picture has a lot of interesting elements. My eye is initially drawn to the couple in the foreground and then it travels through the center of the image. The interaction between the boy and girl adds an emotional element to the image that I can relate to. Also, the people walking in front of the main couple lie parallel to the advertisements on the wall which helps draw the eye through the photograph. The long depth of field adds additional detail to the image which helps the viewer understand the kind of environment through which the couple is walking.

Rush Hour

Rush Hour
Markus Hartel
Street Photography

This photograph captures the chaos that subway riders must endure during rush hour. The photographer is clearly on the outside looking in because the door separates the photographer, as well as the viewer, from the people standing inside the subway. The symmetry of the door frame and the two doors centers the crowd of people in the frame and the eye is drawn to the crowd of people. Even though the small windows only show a portion of the crowd, the viewer can imagine how packed the subway actually is on the inside.

Speed of Light

Darkness to Light
Matt Cardy
The Guardian - Eyewitness

This picture was taken in the Salisbury Cathedral in England during their annual "Darkness to Light" Advent Procession. During this ceremony the cathedral begins in total darkness and then slowly becomes illuminated as candles are carried into the church. The procession of candles leads up to the lighting of the first Advent candle. This is a time-lapse photograph, and the photographer captured this image by leaving the shutter open for a prolonged period of time while the candles were carried into the church. The vibrant bursts of light draw the eye from the bottom right corner up through the center of the image. Another interesting aspect of the photograph is the various shapes present in the architecture of the ceiling. The photograph is framed nicely so that the side columns and curvature of the ceiling surround the ceremony occurring below. This distinct framing adds to the beauty and magnificence of the Advent ceremony.

Blog Post 5

This is a great example of the Tableau-like quality that some photographs have, forcing the viewer to ask "how? why?".  The image is very dramatic and when first viewed the implications do not have to be explained to the viewer.  The photographer does a nice job tying the two elements together, so much so that it seems as if the photograph itself is a portrait, with both the subject and the vehicle are under the photographer's direct control.  The positioning of the vehicle is nice, with the bent metal in the hood adding a dramatic quality to the photograph.  The subject lying down also adds a dramatic like quality to the photograph as if he has just been hit.  All in all, this photograph does a great job in grabbing the viewers attention and forces them to consider future implications of both the "driver" and the "victim".

Blog post 4

This picture does a nice job reflecting Szarkowski's idea of "the decisive moment" that exist when attempting to capture a moment in  time.  This was taken from the set of "Super 8" which came out last summer in theaters.  The picture is obviously capturing a demolition explosion for one of the scenes in the movie.  A cloud is seen in the background of the picture ominously rising.  More importantly, however, is the amount of debris that is captured in the photograph.  Unfortunatley in most movies explosions usually result in a flash of light and a loud noise, but do not take into account the diversity of debris that flys in all directions after the initial detination.  The picture effectivly captures debris of all shapes and sizes flying in many different directions.  A second later by the photographer, and this debris would not have appeared in the picture and this photo would not have existed.  A cool purple glow is seen in the middle of the photograph, further adding to the effect that the explosion has on the final image.

Blog post 3

I think this photograph appropriately reflects many of the political and financial issues that have arisen in the last 6 months.  Not to start shouting my political views on the blog but I think its humorous that peaceful protest results in direct pepper spray to the face, regardless of the nature of the protest.  This photograph clearly portrays this and gives the viewer a sense of helplessness for those protesters being sprayed.  It also portrays the police officers as being diabolical not only in their method of handling protesters, but as almost "bullying" the protesters with a large show of force behind the two officers in the forefront of the picture.  With the officers gathered almost in a circle around the two officers, the intentions of the taking the photograph are fulfilled with the effective capture of a "riot" moment.

Water splash

Photographer Unknown.

I chose this photo because it is a slight variation on the traditional form of photography. Here, instead of a human waiting and pressing the button to take the picture, a laser and a sensor were used to create an electronic tap wire. Coupled with the Arduino programmer they were able to capture high speed pictures of liquid droplets. i just think its is cool how photos using this technique allow us to study the world much more in depth, especially the physics of things the human eye are to slow to capture. It was photography that brought us insight on how horses run and the pattern of the leg motions they use. High speed photography allows us to explore the world much further then we could with out it.

NFL kickoff opening night 2011

Photographer Unknown

This image was captured at the opening night of the 2011 NFL season in Green Bay. I really like it because of the amazing american flag design. Its unique because normally they just have a flag on the field. Here however, they had everyone in the stadium come together to form the flag. Its really cool how they did this and brought everyone together to produce one, united flag.

Lightning Over Water

I have done a lot of my blog posts about nature. So here is another one! I really enjoy photos that capture the raw power of nature. Things that man have not touched and have no control over. This photo exemplifies this idea. Capturing lighting like this in a photograph is hard. the contrast between the dark, ominous sky and water in relation to the flash and brightness of the lightning is outstanding. It really lets you see just how awesome the phenomenon of lightning really is.

Blind Woman- Paul Strand

I did my project for this class on Paul Strand. So i thought I would share my favorite picture of his. I like this photo because the object itself is in the forefront of the picture with nothing else to distract it. The lady wears a sign around her neck that reads “blind.” The picture is so specifically about her. Youcan tell the struggles of this woman’s life simply by looking at the details of this picture. The qualities emphasized in the picture are those of isolation, struggle, strength, endurance, alertness and resilience. There is also a very clever and purposeful ironic component to this photograph. It is the concept of blindness directly being viewed by those with the privilege of sight. It is the fact that the viewer can see that they can experience the photo at all. It is this irony that gives the photo its greatness in my opinion.

Restaurant, Pinones, Puerto Rico by Jerry Alexander

This is a photo of a chef preparing plantains in restaurant in Pinones, near San Juan. The colors in this photograph really explode out at you even though it was taken inside. I noticed the Gatorade sign in the background right away and compare that to the situation that is going on. This place or the plantains that the chef is preparing are not commercialized, so for me it is weird to see such a sign. But I think the photographer did a great job of comparing the commercialized sign with the other homemade and independent aspects of kitchen.

Post apocalyptic clownscape that was 6 flags new orleans by Laura Northrup

I like this photo because it has so much history. In looking at this photo one can tell that this used to be a place of great fun and memories. However looking at the destroyed landscape and graffiti it looks like the setting for a clown horror story. This image does truly look like a post apocalyptic setting because of the destroyed landscape. I have personally never seen a destroyed theme park like this so it is a very interesting sight. the image deffinatly is a detail image due to the fact that it is like another theme park but the only difference is the small differences. This theme park has obviously broken rides, obvious signs of abandonment, and graffiti all over it which makes this picture a detail photo
This is a picture of London England and I like it because it directly shows the meaning of the word "Skyskraper". It is a vantage point picture because it is something that you would only see if you were flying through london on a plain. This picture was taken on a trip sponsered by easybib.com with a digital camera. The picture is a great view of the city and it shows the meaning of the word skyskraper. This is one of my favorite photos that I have posted on this site because it is just so much different
This is a very famous photograph in U.S. history. It captures the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. The attacks were deliberate and planned, with the intention of killing as many American citizens as possible. The photo is gives off an eerie vibe because these two buildings were 110 stories high, and you can see they are on fire and about to collapse. Thousands of people died in this attack. This photo does a good job of capturing time because the fire and smoke are frozen. Rubble is also frozen in mid-air which exemplifies time
Sports illustrated
Kendall Cross
This is a picture taken of kendall cross right after he won the olympics in freestyle wrestling. He is one of few Americans to ever accomplish this and this was taken moments after his come from behind victory. The photo puts you in the scene you can tell that the man is euphoric after this match. He is in such a euphoric zone that you can tell that it was not staged. Because the photo is taken moments after during his celebration the photo freezes time.

This is a photo of the ocean in the Caribbean. The water is very clean and beautiful looking. The background consists of mountains a mid-afternoon sky. The flowers in the bottom right are a vibrant red that capture the eye. This photo does a great job of capturing detail. You can really make out the detail in all of the different objects within the photo.

Best Bokeh Photos
I like this photo because it freezes time and because there is so much out of focus. The image freezes time because it is taking during a light breeze. The picture has so much out of focus because it is focusing on the plant that is so close. however the picture is really about the horizon that is out of focus. This is a great example of bokeh photography because it has so much out of focus and it is truly a great peice of work
Anonomous
Untitled
I like this picture because it is a great example of freezing time. the sun is setting in the background and its almost at that dusky point in the day. Your eye is drawn to the boardwalk bridge off of the beach because it is right next to the sun. The surroundings are beautiful but the photo could also be a vantage point photo because it is not the normal veiw of a sunset. Who ever took this is far into the garden where there is no path in sight which makes the photo look like it has been taken from a peculiar veiw.

Bobby Orr Flies

This is photo of professional hockey player Bobby Orr. He had just scored a few minutes into overtime in the deciding game in the 1970 NHL Stanley Cup Finals. He was tripped by another players stick and went airborne but still managed to score. He begins celebrating before he reached the ice. This gave the Boston Bruins their first Stanley Cup in 29 years. This photo exemplifies time. The photo is in black and white and the player’s equipment is outdated. They are also not wearing any helmets which is now against the rules. This photo also captures Orr frozen in mid-air, which “freezes” time.

Deadmau5

This is a photograph of a Deadmau5 concert in Albany, NY. Deadmau5 is a famous house music DJ that is known for incorporating lights and lasers into his music. The members of the audience all have their arms up and are probably jumping up and down. In the background you can see all the lights and lasers. Behind the lights and lasers you can see Deadmau5 himself, who is known for wearing a mouse mask. This photo does a good job of capturing the framing effect. The lights in the middle are centered and the beams coming off of them are symmetrical.

The Immaculate Reception

This is a photograph of Pittsburgh Steeler Wide Receiver Franco Harris. It is a photo of the "Immaculate Reception" which is a very famous event in NFL history. It occurred during the AFC divisional playoffs in 1972 and ultimately won the Steelers the game. This photo does a good job of capturing time. The photo is taken in black and white, and the quality is low which shows that it is an old photo. Also, it captures Harris in the middle of running to the end zone, which "freezes" time.

Saul Martinez/EPA

This photo brings me back to the time that I spent two weeks in Ecuador last year. The people, colors, and the action that is taking place in the center of the photo remind me of that amazing place. This photo was taken in Guatemala City, Guatemala. It is showing a mother and a daughter observing the traditional ceremony of quema del diablo (burning of the devil). When I was in Ecuador they had a similar holiday on New Years Eve where they would burn a body that resembled a member of their family to get rid of the bad actions of that past year. In this photo, not only does the burning devil catch your eye, but the child's reactions to the sparks also is important. She looks somewhat scared, but happy at the same time as she goes to embrace the person standing next to her.

Sunset airplane wilderness ranch: Letha Wilson: I heart photography

This picture is of a ranch, done on a piece of paper that had been previously folded into a paper airplane. This picture made me think of humanity's manipulation of nature. Here, we see something that is a product of nature (the horizon). However, the picture is on a piece of paper that was once manipulated to be a paper airplane. In this sense, I believe Letha Wilson was attempting to show humanity's capacity to manipulate nature, for better or for worse. To add to this effect, the creases from the former paper airplane seemed to be stressed, and the surrounding light that lights up the paper seems to peak at certain points to stress that changing topography of the paper.

Pet 32

The colors in this photo stand out to me right away. The red of the baby's outfit complement the black fur of the cat, while the devil wings on the baby make the connection between the two. The size of the two are really comparable and it shows how the cat seems to be ignoring the baby. Another thing that I love in this photo is the shadows from the blinds on the window. They give a striped characteristic to both the baby and the cat. I think the comparison between the devil costume and the black cat also play an important role in this photo, seeing that both are considered bad, but how can one view a baby as bad?

Ducati Desmo by Elizabeth Raab

When I first looked at this photo it was very hard for me to tell if it was about the girl or the motorcycle. The lighting from above is shinning right on the Ducati symbol but is also shinning right on the ribs of the women. But after thinking about it, I believe it is the combination of the two that the photographer is trying to exemplify. The curves of the women gracefully bend to the curves of the bike as if they have become one entity. Usually when you see the naked body in photographs they can sometimes be seen as explicit. However, I believe that this use of the naked body is so tastefully used and it works perfectly.

Voicu Bojan

Of all the posts that I have made this semester, this photo is the only one that I have posted that I do not like. To me, it is so bland and there is nothing that stands out to me in this photo. The subject itself and the wires from the telephone pole just seem to maze through the photo making it very confusing on where to focus your eyes. If anything, the wall in the foreground is brought out by the lack of colors in the background. The blue wall, although decaying, has a strong shadow running through it from the telephone pole. I believe that the artist could have made this a stronger photo by including a person that lives around this place to give some context to the photograph.

Lazy Hazy Daze

This photograph was taken from the shutter sisters photography blog. One of the main reasons I chose this picture to blog about was due to the vantage point. This picture is taken from above the boy, rather than at his level. There could be several explanations for using this vantage point. One of the reasons could be that the photographer is trying to allow the viewer to see a child from a parent's perspective or even just an older person's perspective. Also it could be taken from this angle to make it seem like this picture is suppose to be secretive. It may be trying to capture what a child does throughout the day without that child noticing. This picture fits into the category of the thing itself. The boy is the main part of this picture. It also captures time. The boy is either playing with toys or taking a nap. The toys surrounding the boy are very eye-catching. It may be due to the colors of the toys being brighter than the carpet underneath. All in all I think this is a very cute picture capturing the innocence of a child.

Vahid Sharifian: Untitled (Sophia Loren): i heart photograph

This image is of Sophia Loren, and was taken in the late 1960s. The 60s was a time of great social upheaval, specifically in terms of the roles certain individuals were expected to perform in society. I believe this image contests the ideal of the American Nuclear Family. In this Nuclear Family, women were expected to cook, clean, and raise kids. By showing the disgruntled look of a women who is seen to be imprisoned by a gigantic fork and spoon set, we realize the lack of fulfillment and disappointment that can be strongly related to such a preordained lifestyle. By exposing us to the image of someone famous (Sophia Loren) we can also further associate with the meaning behind this picture.

Blog Post 11/18

I really enjoy this shot.  Not only is it capturing the social interaction between two individuals, but it effectively puts the viewer in context with the situation:  the shot is taken close to sea.  I like how the photographer uses the door frame effectively to frame the photograph.  This not only structures the photograph aesthetically but it creates this sense of passive observation from the photographer.  The buoy off to the left side of the picture emphasizes the context that this couple are close to the sea.  Finally, the horizon that separates the ocean from the sky is beautifully captured by the photographer.  The line comes perfectly above the couple’s head’s which adds depth and dimension to the photograph.  At the same time the difference between the two is obscured since both are close to the same color.

Waterkiss

Waterkiss
Willy Marthinussen
http://1x.com/photos

The reflection of the child's face on the water captures the child's innocence. Her sweet, playful expression gives the photograph an overall comforting mood. The emotions conveyed by this photograph remind me of my carefree childhood days. This photograph also captures the child at just the right moment. I can imagine it would be difficult to tell a child to pose like this so that the photographer can take the picture. This makes me think that the photograph was probably created without direction from the photographer. The playful expression on the child's face and the gentle placement of her hand become even more meaningful because of this. Another strong aspect of this photograph is the use of shape. Not only can the viewer see the reflection of the child's face in the water, but he can see the circular ripples in the water and the curved shadows that the ripples project onto the child's face. The smooth projections of light as well as the tonal range in this photograph add to the fluidity and simplicity of the child's action.

Sadness

The is picture is really worth a thousand words. A portrait of a girl who seems to have been crying for a long time and is powerless has so much emotion packed into it. The faded tears, the texture in the picture, the shadowing, and the black frame bring set the mood for this picture. The perfect lighting accents the melancholy and creates an amazing contrast. I find this picture very interesting because it tells a story. I like her posture, the way her hands are folded in front of her and the way her head is a little to the side. It is like she is saying “please do not hurt me anymore”. Even though the whole picture has a melancholic feel to it, the eyes seem to be telling a different story. There are tears and we can see them , however they sparkle as if they see hope. In a way it is ironic because the eyes in a way are the happiest and most alive part of this picture. It just makes you wonder what has happened to this girl? Is the pain going to go away?

I really like this action shot. It is one of those critical moment pictures. This fun activity, a soccer game , seemed to have turned into something very serious and competitive. The facial expressions on the kids faces are amazing. They all seem very serious. There is a lot of color contrast in the picture that adds to the intensity of the game. The movement of their feet, arms , their hair pushed to the side by the wind and most of all the ball, which seems to still be rolling make me feel like i am at the field watching them and wondering if the guy in the front will score or not. I also like the symmetry of the picture two guys in the back, two on the side and the guy with the ball at the center. Also i noticed that there is symmetry in their uniforms too and the way they move. I really like the lighting and overall color contrast in this photo.

i heart photograph: Cortney Andrews: after bellmer: 1938

I chose this image because I believe that it strongly subverts our expectation of the human form (particularly that of females). Our eyes are led from the bottom of the legs up to the torso, where we then expect to see the typical upper half. However, we are instead confronted with a horizontal symmetry of the lower and upper halves. To supplement, shooting this picture in a natural setting (the surrounding forest) seems like a conscious decision to also subvert what we naturally expect.

Walk on an Autumn Day

This picture was taken from the Shutter Sisters photoblog. I choose this one because today I was just thinking of how beautiful the trees are in autumn. This picture gives a good sense of autumn: yellow leaves on the trees, brown leaves on the ground, and a sense of gloominess. This picture fits into Szarkowski's category of framing. You have trees framing both sides of the picture. There really isn't a "thing itself" in this picture, there is a lot of detail though. For example, both people walking in the picture have on black jackets. You can also see the difference in the color of the leaves still on the tree, compared to the brown leaves that have fallen off the tree. The two people walking in the picture are kind of mysterious. We can't see their faces from behind cannot , so it leaves it up to the viewer to determine the relationship between the two. Personally, I think they are two friends maybe walking back to their house after class or something. Also, the road they are traveling on looks abandoned, but it does not look like the road is blocked off. So why is the road so deserted? This picture leaves lots of room for viewers to make up their own story about the picture.

Dancing on the Streets of Russia

Vitaly Sokolovskiy created a series of photos called Dance-Petersburg. This collection features professional dancers, acrobats and ordinary people on the streets of Russian cities. In this photo, a very flexible girl is sitting on a bridge on the computer, with her legs in a dancer's position. This is a type of position that you would never see on an ordinary day, let alone while someone is on the computer. This photo mixed technology and a form of ballet into one. Two completely different things. She seems to be so focused on the computer and is acting like her position is normal and that nothing is wrong. I also love the background of this photo and I think the colors really support the girl and her position.

Life: Robyn Beck: If Bears Ruled the World (November 9th, 2011)

My first reaction to this picture was laughing. The image is kind of ridiculous, and it only gets weirder after you look at it for a while. It is, in fact, a conglomerate of world leaders - in teddy bear form - to commemorate The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit. However, besides being just a ridiculous picture, you start to realize why it is so ridiculous. Our world leaders are depicted here as cute and cuddly, and completely accessible. I can't really speak for anyone else, but this is the exact opposite feeling I get when I consider our world leaders, particularly in light of the current duress encompassing seemingly the entire world. This is what the photographer seems to go for in this picture.

Love Tunnel

This beautiful train tree tunnel is located in Kleven, Ukraine. It’s called the Tunnel of Love. I absolutely love this picture because it looks so unreal and out of a fantasy world. The overwhelming green color and the different shades through out the picture make it even more unique. the very little ground and brown highlights come from the tree branches and trunks, while a bronze color also comes from the rail road tracks that run through the tunnel. The way the picture its taken shows the light shining through in different spots, the great length of the tunnel and it looks like there is a light coming at the end. This picture opens up so nicely, first wide big arches and then smaller ones that are expected to just close at the end but the light shining through makes it seem to go on much further. I also love the fact that it gives off a romantic vibe and privacy which really seem to fit its name Tunnel of Love.

i really like this picture because you dont actually see the person, but you know she is there becasue you see a hand. the use of the post it notes to tell her story is very intriguing. all you kno about this person is that she owes more money now than when she left college, but you almost feel like you know her and can sympathize with her. this photo could go under detail or framing because you see the shadow of the notes and the deatils of her handwriting. its a very basic photo but I feel that it tells a story.

i like this photo because you get to see two animals interacting. its cool how the one moose is in the water to which allows the viewer to see its reflection. the color of the grass is also cool because you can see that the tips are a brownish color which shows the amount of sunlight the area is exposed to. if this photo was under a category I would say time because the photographer catches the animals at the moment they touch
I really like how this picture reflects the Tableau theme we have been discussing in class.  The picture has a mysterious aura surrounding it, almost like there is some story as to who lives in the tent and why.  The tent's color adds to this mysterious aura, almost as if the tent was never suppose to be discovered.  The two trees in the forefront of the picture are cut off but manage to frame the picture perfectly.  This makes the picture easy on the eyes and adds to its aesthetic value.  Finally the natural scenery in this picture is great and gives us a frame of reference for the picture.

Iwo Jima

This is a very famous picture in American history taken by Joe Rosenthal. It was taken at the battle of Iwo Jima during World War II. This photograph has a lot of character. You can tell the soldiers in this photo are going through a lot. They look physically beat up as they stand on a pile of rubble raising the American Flag. This photo is a good example of time. The uniforms that the soldiers are wearing let the viewer know that this is an old picture. The clouds in the somber sky also show that this moment was isolated in time. The flag is folded in half which shows the wind is blowing it, this is another element of time.

Sign of the Times

This picture was taken from the Shutter Sisters photoblog. I think this picture gives viewers a good understanding of what Americans are currently feeling during these rough times. It isn't just the middle class or upper class or lower class, but rather everyone is facing difficulties during this time in history and everyone is in it together. This picture was taken of Occupy Wallstreet protesters. The first thing you see in the picture is the sign the lady is holding that says "We're all in this together". For this reason, I believe this picture could fit into the thing itself. Although the sign is not the only part of the photograph, that's the first thing you see when you look at the picture. I think this picture exemplifies Szarkowski's category of time perfectly. The photographer captured a moment of history. The woman with the sign and the man behind her are the two main objects in this picture, but the other protesters can be seen in the background. I think this picture does a good job of capturing an important part of history.

Against the Wall

Against the Wall, San Francisco, 1934
Dorothea Lange

Dorothea Lange's photograph entitled Against the Wall depicts a man in despair. The subject is set against a blank background which focuses the viewer's eye on the man. It appears as if the man is in an unfortunate situation. The man's body language expresses a sense of defeat and anguish, and the upside down wheelbarrow lying next to him also adds to the emotions being conveyed in the photograph. The wheelbarrow's upside down positioning parallels the man's plight. Another aspect of the photograph that draws attention to the man's emotions is the way Lange framed the photograph. She included much of the wall above the man. This framing causes the man to appear very small against the large, weathered wall behind him and thus adds to the subject's sense of despair and feelings of insignificance.

I am...

This picture was photographed by Kristin Zecchinelli and was taken from the Shutter Sisters photography blog. Although this picture is pretty plain, it fits into almost all Szarkowski's categories and has a lot of meaning to it. This picture fits into Szarkowski's categorie of time. The writing on the wall stopped someone's thoughts . In a particular moment, someone was feeling either positive or negative emotions towards themselves and wrote "I am" on the wall. This picture also fits into the category of frame. The "I am" is in the lower right corner, and we cannot tell if there is any writing below the "I am". By having the writing in the lower right corner, the photographer leaves the viewer wondering if there is more to the phrase. It also lets the viewer decide for themselves what belongs after the "I am".This picture can also fit into detail. You can see the texture of the wall and the crack going right in between the a and the m. Although this picture isn't very detailed, it is a meaningful picture that leaves the viewer guessing what the writing on the wall is all about.

Purple Lane

There is so much purple in this photo that you seem to get lost in it. As your eye follows the path from the foreground through the flowers and greening plants, into the background, you get distracted by all the purple. Its almost impossible to stare down the path without looking away. Also, the purple flowers that are coming from the trees, look like rain. They get a little blurry in the background and give you a sense of depth. A key feature of this photo is the bench in the center left. It sticks out compared to the other bright colors and is the only part of the photo that uses straight parallel lines, a huge contrast to the other parts of the photo.

Playful Dolphins

As winter approaches, I start to miss the summer so much and especially the beach. I really love this picture, it captures such an unusual event , a family of dolphins being playful with surfers. This picture captures time so well, and is all about the decisive moment. As the huge wave comes in and frames the picture , the water just beginning to slash , the dolphins look like they are having a blast riding the wave while the surfers are the spectators. The colors and contrast on this picture is filled with cool colors. There is good lighting and one can even see the reflection of the dolphins in the water right in front of the surfers. The rule of 1/3 also can be seen horizontally and that gives us an idea of how calm the ocean looks from a distance, how big the wave actually is as it towers over the calm water where the surfers are. While the surfers are surprised trying to figure out if they are dolphins or sharks, they look calm and not moving away but looking in awe. I think this is a good example of a tableau picture because it tells a story.

I decided to post a photo from the photographer I am doing my report on, Weegee. This picture is of two fugitives who are in a police van about to be taken to jail. Weegee usually worked at night and listened to his police radio where he would find out where the crimes were occurring. He constantly used flash considering the time of day and it is evident in this picture by the light distribution in the closed area. The photo itself is very interesting because it is a view that not many people are able to see very often. The distribution of the objects and people in the photo is very interesting as well.
