Deadmau5

This is a photograph of a Deadmau5 concert in Albany, NY. Deadmau5 is a famous house music DJ that is known for incorporating lights and lasers into his music. The members of the audience all have their arms up and are probably jumping up and down. In the background you can see all the lights and lasers. Behind the lights and lasers you can see Deadmau5 himself, who is known for wearing a mouse mask. This photo does a good job of capturing the framing effect. The lights in the middle are centered and the beams coming off of them are symmetrical.

The Immaculate Reception

This is a photograph of Pittsburgh Steeler Wide Receiver Franco Harris. It is a photo of the "Immaculate Reception" which is a very famous event in NFL history. It occurred during the AFC divisional playoffs in 1972 and ultimately won the Steelers the game. This photo does a good job of capturing time. The photo is taken in black and white, and the quality is low which shows that it is an old photo. Also, it captures Harris in the middle of running to the end zone, which "freezes" time.

This photo brings me back to the time that I spent two weeks in Ecuador last year. The people, colors, and the action that is taking place in the center of the photo remind me of that amazing place. This photo was taken in Guatemala City, Guatemala. It is showing a mother and a daughter observing the traditional ceremony of quema del diablo (burning of the devil). When I was in Ecuador they had a similar holiday on New Years Eve where they would burn a body that resembled a member of their family to get rid of the bad actions of that past year. In this photo, not only does the burning devil catch your eye, but the child's reactions to the sparks also is important. She looks somewhat scared, but happy at the same time as she goes to embrace the person standing next to her.

Sunset airplane wilderness ranch: Letha Wilson: I heart photography

This picture is of a ranch, done on a piece of paper that had been previously folded into a paper airplane. This picture made me think of humanity's manipulation of nature. Here, we see something that is a product of nature (the horizon). However, the picture is on a piece of paper that was once manipulated to be a paper airplane. In this sense, I believe Letha Wilson was attempting to show humanity's capacity to manipulate nature, for better or for worse. To add to this effect, the creases from the former paper airplane seemed to be stressed, and the surrounding light that lights up the paper seems to peak at certain points to stress that changing topography of the paper.

The colors in this photo stand out to me right away. The red of the baby's outfit complement the black fur of the cat, while the devil wings on the baby make the connection between the two. The size of the two are really comparable and it shows how the cat seems to be ignoring the baby. Another thing that I love in this photo is the shadows from the blinds on the window. They give a striped characteristic to both the baby and the cat. I think the comparison between the devil costume and the black cat also play an important role in this photo, seeing that both are considered bad, but how can one view a baby as bad?

Ducati Desmo by Elizabeth Raab

When I first looked at this photo it was very hard for me to tell if it was about the girl or the motorcycle. The lighting from above is shinning right on the Ducati symbol but is also shinning right on the ribs of the women. But after thinking about it, I believe it is the combination of the two that the photographer is trying to exemplify. The curves of the women gracefully bend to the curves of the bike as if they have become one entity. Usually when you see the naked body in photographs they can sometimes be seen as explicit. However, I believe that this use of the naked body is so tastefully used and it works perfectly.

Of all the posts that I have made this semester, this photo is the only one that I have posted that I do not like. To me, it is so bland and there is nothing that stands out to me in this photo. The subject itself and the wires from the telephone pole just seem to maze through the photo making it very confusing on where to focus your eyes. If anything, the wall in the foreground is brought out by the lack of colors in the background. The blue wall, although decaying, has a strong shadow running through it from the telephone pole. I believe that the artist could have made this a stronger photo by including a person that lives around this place to give some context to the photograph.
