Blog post 3

I think this photograph appropriately reflects many of the political and financial issues that have arisen in the last 6 months.  Not to start shouting my political views on the blog but I think its humorous that peaceful protest results in direct pepper spray to the face, regardless of the nature of the protest.  This photograph clearly portrays this and gives the viewer a sense of helplessness for those protesters being sprayed.  It also portrays the police officers as being diabolical not only in their method of handling protesters, but as almost "bullying" the protesters with a large show of force behind the two officers in the forefront of the picture.  With the officers gathered almost in a circle around the two officers, the intentions of the taking the photograph are fulfilled with the effective capture of a "riot" moment.

I chose this photo because it is a slight variation on the traditional form of photography. Here, instead of a human waiting and pressing the button to take the picture, a laser and a sensor were used to create an electronic tap wire. Coupled with the Arduino programmer they were able to capture high speed pictures of liquid droplets. i just think its is cool how photos using this technique allow us to study the world much more in depth, especially the physics of things the human eye are to slow to capture. It was photography that brought us insight on how horses run and the pattern of the leg motions they use. High speed photography allows us to explore the world much further then we could with out it.

NFL kickoff opening night 2011

This image was captured at the opening night of the 2011 NFL season in Green Bay. I really like it because of the amazing american flag design. Its unique because normally they just have a flag on the field. Here however, they had everyone in the stadium come together to form the flag. Its really cool how they did this and brought everyone together to produce one, united flag.

Lightning Over Water

I have done a lot of my blog posts about nature. So here is another one! I really enjoy photos that capture the raw power of nature. Things that man have not touched and have no control over. This photo exemplifies this idea. Capturing lighting like this in a photograph is hard. the contrast between the dark, ominous sky and water in relation to the flash and brightness of the lightning is outstanding. It really lets you see just how awesome the phenomenon of lightning really is.

Blind Woman- Paul Strand

I did my project for this class on Paul Strand. So i thought I would share my favorite picture of his. I like this photo because the object itself is in the forefront of the picture with nothing else to distract it. The lady wears a sign around her neck that reads “blind.” The picture is so specifically about her. Youcan tell the struggles of this woman’s life simply by looking at the details of this picture. The qualities emphasized in the picture are those of isolation, struggle, strength, endurance, alertness and resilience. There is also a very clever and purposeful ironic component to this photograph. It is the concept of blindness directly being viewed by those with the privilege of sight. It is the fact that the viewer can see that they can experience the photo at all. It is this irony that gives the photo its greatness in my opinion.

Restaurant, Pinones, Puerto Rico by Jerry Alexander

This is a photo of a chef preparing plantains in restaurant in Pinones, near San Juan. The colors in this photograph really explode out at you even though it was taken inside. I noticed the Gatorade sign in the background right away and compare that to the situation that is going on. This place or the plantains that the chef is preparing are not commercialized, so for me it is weird to see such a sign. But I think the photographer did a great job of comparing the commercialized sign with the other homemade and independent aspects of kitchen.

Post apocalyptic clownscape that was 6 flags new orleans by Laura Northrup

I like this photo because it has so much history. In looking at this photo one can tell that this used to be a place of great fun and memories. However looking at the destroyed landscape and graffiti it looks like the setting for a clown horror story. This image does truly look like a post apocalyptic setting because of the destroyed landscape. I have personally never seen a destroyed theme park like this so it is a very interesting sight. the image deffinatly is a detail image due to the fact that it is like another theme park but the only difference is the small differences. This theme park has obviously broken rides, obvious signs of abandonment, and graffiti all over it which makes this picture a detail photo
